Once she slipped into her white dress (really a leather top and long skirt), Keys coasted on an impressive run of hits -- Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart, Superwoman, If I Ain't Got You, No One -- that finally brought most of the crowd to its feet.Alicia Keys closed with Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down, her sequel to that glorious Jay-Z pairing. And for one night, the hopeful cries of "New Yooooooork" belonged to Houston.
Robin Thicke's 35-minute set featured steamy slow jams and hip-hop- laced uptempos. He was much more successful on the former, including Sex Therapy and signature hit Lost Without U. His effortless falsetto had throngs of women squealing like tween fans.Thicke is a likable enough performer, but his status as go-to opener for more famous soul divas (Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce) is telling. He has yet to truly establish himself, despite three albums, as a heavyweight.

Alicia keys 2010, Fresh Powder Helps Dedicated Snow Fans to Ski In To May

Although most of the world’s top resorts have now ended their 2009-10 ski seasons, there are still several dozen ski areas in more than 10 countries which are offering skiing and boarding this May Day weekend. Many have special events on to celebrate as well as low prices and sunshine.

Norway has more than 10 ski areas open including best known Hemsedal and coastal Vos, which has had a foot of new snow in the past week.
Closer to home, Cairngorm above Aviemore in Scotland still offers top to bottom skiing in what must be its most successful season for several decades. It will stay open at weekends through May.
In Spain you can still ski at Europe’s most southerly resort, Sierra Nevada, close to beach resort Malaga, this weekend. It still have more than three metres (ten feet) of snow on upper slopes.
Sweden has about 15 ski areas open including Scandinavia’s biggest, Are. Most close in the next week but Riksgransen up in the Arctic Circle is open to late June and will offer its trademark skiing under the midnight sun from late May when 24 hour daylight returns to the region.
In the US, California has had one of its best seasons for year and some resorts there will enter their eighth month of operation at the weekend after starting off early last October! Squaw Valley and Mountain High wind up their seasons this weekend, but Mammoth plans to stay open until July.

She sang and danced with a small arsenal of dancers to the opening and “You Don’t Know My Name,” the Kanye West-produced hit from her second album, which she infused with West’s own “Flashing Lights.” Although the audience might not have recognized the electronic-tinged original, Keys commanded the concertgoers with moves and vocal acrobatics befitting a pop diva.
But unlike many of her contemporaries, she had an inspirational message attached to the glitzy production. Whether it was “peace,” “love” or “unity” (all of which flooded the screens at some point or other), Alicia Keys came to entertain and uplift.
However, as  eye-popping as the visuals were, they often became distracting -- and at times confusing. The connection might have been lost in translation when images of what appeared to be the civil-rights movement splashed across the screen during “You Don’t Know My Name.” Yet watching Keys jam to “Karma” in front of a collage of images depicting the stock market crash put new emphasis on her lyrics: “What goes around, comes around / What goes up, must come down / Now who's crying, desiring to come back.”

Jay-Z will be a massive hit at T in the Park, predicts Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys has tipped Jay-Z to be a huge hit at this summer's T in the Park festival.
The R&B superstar says her hip hop pal, who faced controversy when he headlined Glastonbury two years ago, will have no problems when he heads to Balado in July.
Alicia, who sings on Jay-Z's Empire State Of Mind records, believes his headline slot will thrill the festival's 85,000 crowd.
She said: "Jay-Z is wonderful, so it's going to go great at T in the Park.
"Come on man, he has been in the business a long time and he has great songs and I know the people there are looking forward to him coming."
Jay-Z last headlined a festival in the UK at Glastonbury in 2008. His inclusion on the bill provoked a furious reaction from Noel Gallagher.
The former Oasis guitarist criticised the decision to go for a hip hop act from the US instead of a British guitar act.
Gallagher moaned: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you start to break it then people aren't going to go.
"I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance." Despite his objection, Jay-Z went on to prove a highlight at Britain's biggest festival.
Alicia, 29, whose mum Terri is part-Scottish and part-Italian-Irish, insists he will come all guns blazing to Scotland.
He joins a line-up that includes rapper Eminem, rockers Muse, Black Eyed Peas and Kasabian.
